Double Olympian Delivers 'Inspiration'

The Olympic spirit was on full display as Alex Hua Tian visited Wycombe Abbey International School, Changzhou to speak with pupils. His talk led onto a demanding question and answer session with the pupils.

Educated at Eton College, Alex represented China in both the Beijing and Rio Olympics.

Alex talked about his own sport and the Olympic dream. He reminded pupils that taking part in real sport which pushes you physically and mentally is a crucial part of education in school. He talked to the pupils about how he had played rugby and cricket at Eton and also of the big sacrifices you have to make in order to become the best. He reminded the pupils that the mental toughness you gain from sport is a vital ingredient in being successful in life.

After Alex had left the School. V. Qiu (Yr8 Cavell) said “One of the biggest things that came across to me is the importance of perseverance and developing resilience through failing, learning from all life’s experiences. This is a really important lesson, not just in sport but in all of life. If we grasp the opportunities here at Wycombe Abbey then it will help shape us into well-balanced, hardworking, confident young people.”

Hua Tian is rightfully proud of his achievements in representing China and our own pupils were inspired by his words and experiences.
