Children’s Book Week 2018

Established in 1919, Children’s book week is the longest-running national literacy initiative with the focus, ‘Every Child a Reader’. This year marks the 99th celebration, commemorated by a poster designed by Jillian Tamaki, an award winning illustrator.

At WAIS we celebrated our Book Week, with a dress up assembly held for kindergarten and primary pupils. It is so wonderful to see the effort that pupils make on this special day, of course with the assistance of their parents. Certificates were awarded in special assembly, to those creative book characters. Some of this year’s winners included; Paddington Bear, Sherlock Holmes, Harry Potter and Flat Stanley, to name a few!

Book week is a fun celebration of our world and the thousands of stories in it. It captures the theme of ‘One World, Many Stories’ and highlights the power of books to appeal to readers of all backgrounds. We could not have been more delighted to celebrate this!
