Primary Swimming Gala

On Saturday 21st April, WAIS entered our 3rd swim gala of the year to the delight of all Wycombe Abbey swimmers chosen to represent the school at Shanghai High School, where eight other competing schools were matched up against each other in a tremendous display of swimming ability on show.

First to go were the primary pupils who had been eager to race after rising early to start their journey to Shanghai. The primary swimmers competing were familiar with the schedule of events and were aware of the competition that they would face coming into the race. E. Hu, J. Jiang, J. Zhang and N. Zhang were representing the school in the breaststroke and freestyle races and knew a good start with a strong leg kick was key to their race finish position.

N. Zhang started us off with a time of 37.26 in the 25m breaststroke, to the onlooking support of her mother who led the biggest cheer of the day. J. Jiang produced an excellent time of 26.29 in the 25m breaststroke and deservedly took all the pundits, even though they didn’t get the medal finish they wanted. E. Hu produced a super time of 49.55 in the 50m freestyle which is by no means an easy event to compete in. A fantastic performance by E. Hu, well done!

As the primary events finished the pupils had gained a great experience, not only competing but also observing other swimmers and directly seeing the level of performance they need to aspire to in the next gala.

Well done to all the pupils for your efforts and patience on the day!
