Rugby Stars of the future in Primary

What a day!

This past weekend saw our first rugby games of the season, and both teams had a fantastic morning of rugby! We may not have won every game but we worked hard on our tackling, played as a team and scored some well-deserved tries. Playing against the Shanghai Hairy Crabs and the Japanese Seahorses, these were two teams we have become accustomed to playing in recent seasons. Both teams were very different, in some ways more tactical and in others more experienced but we didn’t let this stop us from playing good rugby.

The U9s had some great games and the scores were always close but unfortunately the team didn’t manage to notch a win. There were lots of positives to come away with and we know if we work on a few things in training we’ll be fierce heading into the next competition. Many of the players had never played rugby till Saturday, for some it was their first ever time tackling the opposition! They have gained confidence this week and I am sure will show massive improvements throughout the year as they gain more experience on the field. Our player of the day for the U9s was Ryan Huang for always finding space when he had the ball, running into and scoring tries!

The U11s had some fierce competition and at times it got very serious! They ended the day on a high beating the Hairy Crabs six tries to nil! With this kind of score at the beginning of the season we can only expect great things throughout the school year! Player of the day for U11s was Jerry “Rhino” Tao for his consistent great play during all the games!

Having so many staff and parents to support the children pitch side really made a big difference.
