Football Girls so close to the semi-finals in Shanghai

Despite an early morning start and a long coach trip to Shanghai, the girls ran onto the pitch bubbling with energy and excitement.

Their first game was against SUISHQ. The game was a closely fought game. Wycombe Abbey had several chances to take the lead but failed to find the back of the net and were the better team in term of possession. ln the second half, Wycombe defended valiantly to keep a clean sheet. The final score was 0-0. It is a game that the girls can be proud of as they showed determination, good sportsmanship and enthusiasm.

The second game was against SUISSY. This was an exciting game with end to end action. Wycombe Abbey created a few chances but could not find the back of the net, unfortunately SUISSY took their chances well to be two goal up in the first half. In the second half however despite brave defending Wycombe conceded another two goals. The final score was 4-0. The girls played once again with passion and were becoming more tactically aware.

In the third game, the girls’ legs were beginning to tire as a result of having played two games without subs. Wycombe knew they needed to win this game to reach the semifinals. Wycombe made a good start when C. Shang combined well with J. Zhou who managed to thread it through to Y. Shi to take an early lead. In the second half Wycombe conceded a penalty when D. Huang handled in the area however the penalty was well saved. With only four minutes left and a place in the semi-final looking a realistic possibility SUIS PD succeeded in scoring when a strike was deflected past the helpless goalkeeper.
