U9 and U11 Netball Finals

On the first day of the Qing Ming holidays, the Under 9 and Under 11 Netballers were in buoyant spirits as they made their way across the Dulwich College, Pudong for their finals day, the culmination of a term of hard work on the court.

The Under 9’s and Under 11’s WAIS girls teams enjoyed a competitive and fun weekend of sport at the Shanghai Netball Finals. Both teams played very well and showed much determination, communication and team work.

The finals held at Dulwich College saw twenty-one teams play against each other to become the overall champions. The 5.45am departure and 3-hour bus trip did not hinder the team’s performances on the day and they all played fantastically and in superb spirit.

In the group stages WAIS Under 9’s narrowly lost only one game against Dulwich College that then saw them playing off for 3rd and 4th place which they won.

The Under 11 team were a real force to be reckoned with. Led strongly by talented captain C. Shang they won their pool convincingly to make the finals against Dulwich College.  WAIS fitness levels proved exceptionally high with amazing accuracy from the shooting circle and goal shooters sinking from everywhere. In true ‘Clash of the Titans’ style and with the enthusiastic backing of many supporters they won the finals in dramatic fashion by a single point.

This is an incredible achievement for the WAIS young ladies and shows much promise for the future of netball at Wycombe Abbey.
