U11 Boys Football Team Triumphs in Shanghai

At the crack of dawn on Saturday 26th October, the U11 Boys Football Team made the trip to Harrow Shanghai to take part in a six team tournament over the morning.

O. Qi, H. Liao, L. Angheben, D. Hu, R. Huang, H. Feng, T. Du, D. Zhang, B. Pan and E. Zhu made up the Wycombe Abbey ‘dream team’ who would ultimately lift the trophy after all the points in the table had been calculated. Not that it was difficult to calculate; with our boys winning 5 out of their 5 games! It was an emphatic display of resilience, character and footballing skill for which the boys should be hugely congratulated.

With six of the boys getting on the scoresheet, this clearly shows how much of a team effort went into each and every victory. The ‘pass and move’ game Wycombe Abbey have been trained in proved a winning formula as opposing defenses found themselves pulled in too many directions to stop our goal scoring opportunities. The team could not have hoped for a better start when Dragon found the net in the opening minutes of the first match against the home team, Harrow. T. Du’s quick-thinking and agility also allowed him score a second shortly afterwards. The 2-0 win was the perfect start for Wycombe Abbey.

Each player excelled in their individual position. L. Angeheben in midfield, was a constant threat with his precision passing and pinpoint shooting. D. Hu and H. Liao, on the left and right flanks, showed ‘Duracell’ stamina with their attacking and tracking back, and E. Zhu and R. Huang proved to be an indestructible wall in defence. H. Feng and B. Pan both made some cavalry entrances, with B. Pan scoring the third goal in the 3-2 win over King’s College HZ. O. Qi in goal produced some great reactive saves and was praised by the organizers for his four clean sheets.

This was a fantastic footballing effort of which all the team should be hugely proud. Champions!
