WAS Chess Players Score Big In Shanghai Area Online Tourney

Wycombe Abbey chess players checkmated many opponents from the Shanghai metropolitan area Friday night (November 28, 2021) during the International Schools Online Chess League tournament. Twelve secondary boys placed 12th among the 43 schools participating that evening with D. Li (11X2, Scott), H. Yang (9X2, Hawking), E. Luo (9Y1, Newton), and H. Ha (PreAX1, Scott) taking top honors for the school.

Other boys participating included K. Lv (10Y2, Turner), T. Zhang (11Y1, Newton), and H. Huang (9Y3, Elgar). A slew of sixth graders were also on hand: M. Xu (Mackerel, Scott), S. Lee (Manta Ray, Newton), D. Wang (Salmon, Newton), C. Xiang (Mackerel, Turner), and J. Tang (Pelicans, Turner).

Each boy played a number of rounds and earned a rating through the Shanghai Chess Academy. The Academy sponsors six online tournaments throughout the school year, and the boys are eager to compete next month. Wycombe Abbey students (especially girls) interested in giving competition a try should consider signing up for Friday ECAs, which meet 7-8pm in B407.
