On Sunday Wycombe Abbey International School were honoured guests of the Chinese National Hockey Association at their End of Season Championship Tournament.
The girls were invited to watch the Championship final between Sichuan and Liaoning, which took place at the National Hockey Centre in Changzhou. The game was both exciting and tense, finishing 2-2, before Liaoning won on a penalty shootout.
All girls at Wycombe Abbey International play hockey, a sport which Great Britain won the gold medal at the recent 2016 Olympics. Director of Hockey Mr Dearden said, “considering we only started playing hockey in September, the girls have made outstanding progress. We are the only international school in China that plays competitive hockey and it is very pleasing to see the relationship we have with the China National Team continuing to grow. Hockey is a very popular sport at UK and US universities and it gives our girls a definite advantage if they are able to add to their applications and profile that they have been playing hockey at one of the leading international schools in South East Asia.”
