Finals Day on Saturday 27th May in Shanghai marked the end of the 2016/17 Rugby Season. At the beginning of the year everyone involved in the program gathered to discuss the development of Rugby, and to decide on clear targets for the season.
The 2016/17 targets:
To develop Rugby within School and the Local Community
To be competitive in the full contact areas of Rugby
To create a culture of Courage, Unity and Pride. Especially in the contact areas of Rugby!
On reflection, I am proud to announce that we have achieved the targets set. Building on the tournament victories achieved in the 2015/16 Season, our Primary, U13, U15 & U17 Rugby sides having done exceptionally well. Pleasingly we are moving ever closer to the Senior Leadership Team approving our Rugby tour of England and the prestigious Rosslyn Park Sevens Tournament in London.
As expected all pupils have improved significantly, however, special mention to W. Li, W. Hua, G. Shi, C. Wang, J.Li, T. Li, N. Zhang, L. Liu.
At the end of year strategic meeting in June, I have no doubt that as a school we will be setting high expectations for our pupils. With the introduction of Rugby for Girls, adding to the Hockey, Netball, Rowing and minor sports options available, Rugby participation numbers in Jiangsu are set to grow even further.
In closing, I would like to thank my fellow coaching staff (R. Carbutt, S. Jacobs, R. Zhang), our guest coaches (Hamilton, New Zealand, D. Griffiths) and our growing number of parents who have made a commitment to the Rugby program. Your efforts and early morning starts heading to Shanghai have been greatly appreciated.
