Last October, ABRSM Senior Examiner Mr Peter Noke visited WAIS for the first time and launched our keyboard programme with several workshops and a piano duo recital. This year Mr Noke was joined by Mr Christopher Steele, an internationally renowned tenor. During their whirlwind visit, Mr Noke and Mr Steele conducted several workshops and masterclasses for our aspiring pianists and singers. They also gave a short performance to our primary musicians during their performance workshop last Tuesday afternoon.
Our musicians in residence concluded their visit with a recital in the Theatre titled: “A Journey through Western Europe in Song”. For most teenagers, this was their first encounter with Western Art Songs and many were blown away by the incredible power and nuances of a human voice.
Mr Noke was amazed by the transformation ofthe Music Department over the past 12 months. Mr Noke remarked: “Very few British independent schools can now match the calibre of WAIS musicians, both pupils and staff alike”. Music Department would like to thank both Mr Noke and Mr Steele for their continual encouragement and advice. We hope they will visit WAIS again in the near future.
