On Saturday 21st April the Sports Hall was taken over by the Year 9 and 10 pupils for their Annual Science Fair.
In recent weeks pupils have been working in groups on an aspect of Science in which they have a particular interest. As part of this they prepared a demonstration and explanation of the principle or experiment involved.
The Fair is a culmination of their work, and provides an opportunity to show their Scientific talents.
Parents were invited to visit the Fair and view the work of the children. With some parents unable to resist getting involved with the experiments!
Everyone had great fun, with some very informative, amusing and even explosive demonstrations. There is also a serious side to the event. Groups are judged by the Science Staff and Senior Management of the School. Teams must demonstrate serious life skills such as the ability to work as a Team - supporting and helping each other; working safely to investigate and solve problems demonstrating a methodical approach; recording and reporting their work effectively; and of course, the ability to present their findings in an interesting, informative and professional manner.
The Science Department will be meeting this week to review the judges’ opinions and decide which groups deserve commendations and prizes for their work – and these will be announced shortly. Watch this space!!
