A wave of red flags adorned Changzhou National Hockey Centre at the weekend.
Nearly 100 Wycombe Abbey pupils from Year 7 to 13 waved flags and cheered on China in the final group game of the Champions Trophy.
The trip with half time popcorn was an enjoyable one for the pupils as China were narrowly pipped 2-1 by eventual tournament winners Holland.
But the real drama was saved for right at the end.
With three minutes remaining and 1-0 down, China bravely substituted their goalkeeper to be replaced with an extra outfield player.
A sporting Holland did the same as both teams pushed for a goal. There was plenty of applause and shouts of delight when China scored the goal they deserved with just 50 seconds left on the clock despite Holland netting another just before.
The tournament is planned to take place again next Spring and Wycombe Abbey shall be there supporting China and learning from watching the world’ s best players.
