School News March 20, 2019

Members of China ladies hockey team have received a warm welcome to Wycombe Abbey International School.

The charitable and kind national players were visiting WAIS to run a coaching session to our Year 7-8 girls in PE. Following a greeting at Wycombe Abbey by Headmaster Mr. Griffiths, a signed shirt to mark the occasion was presented by team coach Mrs. Yang. Joining their players were distinguished coaches Mrs. Cai, Mr. Zhang and China Team Leader Mr. Wang.

The highly gifted China hockey players set up different skill stations with the pupils learning how to improve their dribbling, passing and ball control. A question and answer session to help the pupils learn from expert insight was followed by an exhibition game involving mixing WAIS Year 8 hockey 1st team players and with China’s Ladies. The pupils are very keen hockey players and showing great potential by quickly developing their talent. China captain and forward Miss Liang and a dozen players enjoyed meeting the pupils and later mixing with staff over dinner.

The successful and fun visit was arranged by WAIS PE hockey coaches Mrs. Yu and Mr. Wu who are both ex national players themselves. Another school trip is being arranged to cheer China on against USA at Changzhou Hockey Centre next term.
