On Saturday, the end of season rugby dinner and awards took place at Wuyue International Plaza. It was a celebration of another year of progress for both the senior boys and girls teams. It was also a chance to say goodbye to those who will be leaving the school, many of whom will be able to carry on playing rugby at university, after being introduced to the sport at Wycombe Abbey.
After giving pupils a little free time to enjoy themselves at the shopping mall, everyone came together for an awards presentation. For the girls team, C. Cao was awarded the Most Improved Player, A. Zhao Best Defensive Player, C. Zhang received the Clubman award and the Player of the Year was split between twins T. Zhou and K. Zhou. For the boys, J. Chen was the Best Defensive Player, A. Tian Most Improved Player, K. Li received the Clubman award and the Player of the Year went to N. Zhang.
With the awards presentation over, the two teams split up for dinner. The girls opted for Thai food while the boys went for hot pot. Both teams made sure they refuelled properly, ordering almost everything they could from their respective menus.
Even though it is near the end of the school year, both teams are already preparing for the new season, which starts in September. Training sessions are running every week for both teams with players also making the most of the school gym to get stronger and fitter. The squads for next season look very promising with pupils in a good position to build upon the improvements made this season.
