On Saturday 13th March, WAS fielded an U19 and an U15 team to compete at BIS Wuxi in a friendly competition against Wuxi International School and Boston International School Wuxi. As the first external football fixtures of the academic year, the students were incredibly excited to be playing and representing their school on the football pitch once again.
The U19 team, mostly made up of students from Y10, had two great performances against BIS and WIS. The result of the first game was 6-4 down against BIS and 4-2 down against WIS. Having found their feet and gotten used to playing as a team, we look forward to seeing them succeed in tournaments to come. C. Wang (Elgar) was highlighted by the coach for his great performance as well as T. Lu (Hawking) for his display of leadership and courage, rallying his teammates in the face of tough opposition.
The U15 team enjoyed a fantastic result of 7-1 against BIS, a result which is reflective of the beautiful football they played, dominating the opposition in both attack and defense. Their success was due to their ability to play seamlessly as a team. Whilst every member of the U15 team could be mentioned, J. Gu (Turner), E. Luo (Newton), D. Zhang (Turner) were highlighted by their coach for their ability, as well as D. Liu (Turner) for being the top goal scorer. Having finished their games at around 3:00pm, the teams headed back and returned to school at 5:45.
Both teams are now looking forward to and training hard towards an interschool tournament this weekend against 5 other schools, and an U19 tournament after the Qingming Holiday.
