Michaelmas Term - House Outings

School News December 03, 2016

As we approach the end of the Michaelmas Term the Houses; Austen, Blake, Cavell, Newton & Turner took time out of their busy schedules to enjoy their house outings.

Blake spent the day at Tian Mu Lake.Blessed with sunshine and blue skies we enjoyed a Ferry ride across the lake to Tian Mu Island, made famous by American and Chinese Film makers. The boys walked through the bamboo forests and explored the island, enjoying the sights on offer.

Austen House took a trip to KTV, where they sang their favourite songs! After the singing came fine dining at an Italian restaurant.

On Saturday 3rd December the warriors of Newton house marched down to the shores of Taihu Lake and waged war.

  • Their enemy?
  • The tutors.
  • Their weapon of choice?
  • Lasers.

All of the boys of Newton enjoyed an afternoon of laser tag. After instruction on how their laser guns worked, the boys unleashed righteous fury upon each other in a series of battles. The highlight of which was a showdown between an elite team of Newtons and their tutors and Housemaster.

The teachers fought valiantly but the skill and marksmanship of the boys could not be reckoned with; victory came swiftly.

After laser tag the boys ate a Chinese dinner before returning back to Changzhou.

The Pupils started with a guided walk around the temple area. Gaining an understanding of its history (Southern Dynasty in 549AD) and enjoying its beauty.
After the walk we visited Molto Bene Italian restaurant. Pupils enjoyed the hospitality, and enjoyed the opportunity to make Pizza’s.
TO end the day the House enjoyed a boat trip on the legendary Grand Canal, where they stopped off for a short break at the stone museum.

At the end of a very busy term, Cavell House set out on a fun, relaxing and tasty Christmas trip out!Zhonglou Bowling Alley was our destination, and with the girls split into teams the competition began. Our girls took their Tutors by surprise with their song requests. When “Can’t top the Feeling” “skyfall” and “O Come O Come Emmanuel” came on, an impromptu Unison practice ensued – much to my delight and pride. After the excitement of bowling we set off hungry for dinner. We sat down to a formal meal at the Tuscany Restaurant in the Marriott Hotel in Xinbei, famous for its excellent Italian food and steaks. Our Cavell ladies were treated to etiquette instruction by the Head Chef for formal dining. Which was followed by a 5-course Italian meal, which included smoked salmon, steak and a selection of mini-puddings.It was a wonderful day shared by all of the House.
