Saurday 29th May saw the return of external netball fixtures at Wycombe Abbey, with Dulwich College Suzhou travelling to compete against our Junior A and B teams. These teams were made up of U15 and U13 players, who have been training incredibly hard for the past year to hone their skills; especially in the last 4 weeks with the introduction of Sunday morning trainings. The netball programme is becoming ever more popular amongst our students, with the sport being on offer in PE lessons, as part of the evening ECA programme, and on a weekend during the Saturday and Sunday sports times. With this popularity, the netball players are striving towards excellence.
The girls faced some strong opposition from DCS, however dug deep to match them in what was a fantastic display of netball.
The A team won their first game comfortably, with the final score being 15-9, however in the second game narrowly lost to their opposition (14-18). The A team demonstrated great fluidity in their teamwork, a clear sign of the time they have committed this year to training. There were a number of outstanding players to be highlighted. Strong in defense and with consistently accurate passing, J. Wang was highlighted for her tenacious spirit, hunting all the balls that came near her.
S. Ding was noted for her aggressive attacking plays, as well as her leadership both on and off the court, rallying the rest of the team when the second game proved to be tough. Finally, S. Sun and S. Zhan in attack were brave and attempted shots from everywhere inside the circle, being successful in almost all of their shooting. They acted as a source of encouragement not only to each other, but also to the other players.
In the B team fixtures, the girls lost their first game, however after a debrief and words of encouragement the team rose to meet the challenge and managed to win their second game 5-3!
In their games, L. Xu gave an excellent performance, with accurate, confident shooting. L. Ding and L. Chen held the mid court defense, whilst J. Jiang delivered a great performance debuting at Goal keep in her first ever Netball fixture!
Across the board the girls played incredibly well, and we are pleased by the results, which show a strong promise for Netball at WASCZ. The girls are back into training, more eager than ever before thanks to this interschool fixture. We look forward to seeing many more in the future, and once again we give a massive congratulations to all the girls that took part for their stellar efforts.
