WAS Volleyball

On the 23rd of October the U19 senior boys volleyball team travelled to Suzhou for a D2 tournament with teams from Suzhou, Shanghai, Kunshan and Wuxi.

As it was a semi-competitive tournament no points or awards were given out. Due to Covid restrictions many schools have not been able to participate in any competitive sports with other schools and this was an opportunity for the teams to gain some valuable game experience. Each team played a total of 4 games over the course of the day. Although the boys only manage to win a few sets, they held their own and played some very close games.

The team really appreciated the experience and played very well. Considering the other schools have established volleyball teams and regular practices at their schools. While the Wycombe Abbey volleyball team is a newly formed team which has only been practicing for two months. It is largely a student-led team, formed by Joshua Gu, one of the 6th form students at WAS. Joshua recruited the players and has helped coach the team over the last two months. Some of the boys had never played volleyball before this year but they all worked incredibly hard over the last month, trying to squeeze in as much practice as possible in preparation for the tournament.

We are all looking forward to further developing our volleyball skills and more competitions and tournaments in the future.
