School-based Curriculum
Sports
High-quality extracurricular sports courses develop students’ physical strength and mental resilience.
International scientists have proved that children who play sports are healthier, stronger and more likely to succeed academically. The world’s top universities all recognise the importance of sport. Therefore, a rich exercise curriculum is essential.
WASCZ focuses on students’ academic performance while also emphasising building their character and skills, perseverance and open-mindedness, leadership and teamwork skills, and many other qualities developed through sports.
WASCZ takes sports courses very seriously, offering our students the opportunity to participate in a whole variety of sports daily. We offer many valuable sports courses that few schools in China provide, including rugby, fencing, horse riding, golf, hockey and rowing.
WASCZ recruits first-class sports teachers and coaches, including professional athletes and members of national teams, to help students develop their physical fitness and skills for future life and careers.
Music
Music is of enormous importance in Wycombe Abbey School Changzhou. Before they embark on their IGCSE curriculum, music is a compulsory course for every student.
Music is one of the earliest forms of expression. It is a powerful transforming force in people’s intellectual, social and spiritual growth. WASCZ provide students with systematic and structured music education from Kindergarten to Sixth Form, including singing, composition, performance, music production and other courses and community activities. It provides children with rich performance opportunities and develops their courage and adaptability.
Top universities around the world pay great attention to music education. WASCZ offers professional and highly structured music courses, including theory, appreciation, composition, vocal music and more than twenty musical instrument courses, thereby developing students’ appreciation of music and their musical skills.
Every student in WASCZ has the opportunity to give musical performances on campus. Students who are members of a choir or learn a musical instrument usually give performances or take part in contests out of school; this gives them ample opportunities to develop their confidence and skills. Moreover, all students in WAS, whether learning music or not, have the chance to attend performances with renowned musicians and be inspired by their appreciation and performance of music.
Art
A varied art education serves as the foundation of creativity.
At WASCZ, we pay great attention to art education. Art is a compulsory course for students in the lower grades rather than just being optional.
We offer a wealth of art courses, including graphic design, painting, photography and sculpture, helping students discover new skills and talents and develop their creativity, coordination and perseverance. Art exhibitions are often held to display students’ works. Students interested in art can choose to study art in their IGCSE and A Level programs, thereby fully developing their interests in art.
Our school has exceptionally well-equipped art classrooms and workshops which offer an ideal environment for creativity and help students lay a solid foundation for their future art studies and careers.
Drama
Drama is another distinctive course on offer at WASCZ.
We encourage all students to participate in dramatic performances to improve their performance skills and capabilities in writing, directing and stage management, as well as to develop their confidence, communication and social skills, self-discipline, leadership, agility, creativity and teamwork.
WASCZ is equipped with superb professional theatre facilities, giving students every opportunity to explore their interests and develop their potential in acting.
A 600-seat theatre has been designed to the highest standards and is equipped with multiple rehearsal rooms, professional music classrooms and ensemble practice rooms. In addition, there are also two professional drama rooms for drama teaching and rehearsals.
