The fortunate Upper School students who participated in the recent Maoshan Enrichment Camp underwent a remarkable transformation. This successful camp visit not only enhanced their personal growth but also instilled a spirit of adventure, equipping them with essential values and skills for their future.
Upon arrival, the students fully immersed themselves in structured activities emphasising teamwork and community engagement. Icebreakers and group games helped cultivate a collaborative spirit and fostered a sense of camaraderie, setting a positive tone for a week full of learning and exploration.
During the week-long Enrichment Camp, students were divided into two groups for hands-on activities. One group embarked on a thrilling biking adventure, while the other group engaged in trail construction in the lush Maoshan forests. This approach allowed students to push their physical limits and fostered a sense of accomplishment. After switching activities in the afternoon, students reflected on their experiences during evening discussions, celebrating the successful construction of a significant new trail.
On Day 3, students visited a local temple to assist monks with their daily activities, deepening their understanding of community service and cultural appreciation. After enjoying lunch at the temple, they participated in a Tai Chi session, promoting a sense of wellness and mindfulness. In addition, some students had a first-hand experience of the unique local tea culture, picking fresh leaves in the lush green tea gardens, experiencing the process of tea making and tasting fresh tea picked by themselves.
The Enrichment Camp journey continued with a cable car ride to the mountain’s summit, leading to an invigorating hike through the forest. Despite the inclement weather, the students demonstrated remarkable perseverance and teamwork, completing the challenging hike.
The next day began with students engaging in raft building or tackling a high rope course, further pushing their limits. Following a fulfilling morning, they regrouped for lunch and switched activities, allowing them to experience both. Evening teamwork activities fostered a strong sense of community and camaraderie, culminating in a final dinner and reflections on their experiences.
This Maoshan Enrichment Camp trip has been an impactful opportunity for our students, supporting their holistic development by blending outdoor adventure with meaningful community service. Through this experience, participants have enhanced their practical life skills and nurtured vital values, including empathy, responsibility, and teamwork – essential qualities in today’s interconnected world.
As the camp concludes and students return home, they carry new perspectives, cherished memories, and vital lessons shaping their future endeavours. We are excited and hopeful about the lasting impact of these experiences on their growth as compassionate and engaged citizens.
