Let’s Go Together: Dunhuang Rendezvous
Last March 30th to April 3rd, the Grade 6 students of WASCZ embarked on an extraordinary journey to Dunhuang, China, immersing themselves in a captivating blend of cultural exploration, historical discovery, and heartfelt interactions. This excursion marked a significant milestone in an ongoing charity project spearheaded by our very own Grade 10 student, E. Xu. Through her commendable efforts, she successfully raised funds to support 27 students from Gansu Wuwei High School, enabling them to partake in this enriching experience alongside our students.
Led by their teachers, the students embarked on a five-day adventure filled with enriching experiences aimed at fostering their social and emotional development. From exploring the majestic Mogao Caves to venturing into the vast Mingshan Sand Dunes, each day was packed with opportunities for growth and learning.
The Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its exquisite Buddhist art and architecture, provided the perfect backdrop for students to delve into the rich history and cultural significance of Dunhuang. Guided tours led them through the intricately adorned cave temples, sparking curiosity and awe-inspiring moments of reflection.
Venturing into the serene expanse of the Mingshan sand dunes, students embraced the spirit of adventure as they engaged in exhilarating activities such as hiking and camel riding. Amidst the vast desert landscape, they learned valuable lessons about resilience, teamwork and environmental stewardship.
A highlight of the trip was the opportunity for cultural exchange with students from Gansu Wuwei High School, fostering cross-cultural understanding and empathy. Through interactive workshops and shared experiences, friendships were forged, and perspectives were broadened, leaving an indelible mark on the hearts and minds of all involved.
Mr. Alek Cabangon, the trip leader, emphasized the profound impact of the journey on students’ social and emotional well-being. “Beyond the academic curriculum, this trip provided invaluable opportunities for personal growth and self-discovery. Through cultural immersion and hands-on experiences, students developed empathy, resilience, and a deeper appreciation for diversity.”
WASCZ remains committed to providing exceptional educational experiences that inspire curiosity, cultivate compassion, and empower students to become global citizens.
