From November 15th to 17th, 2024, the World Chinese Language Conference was held in Beijing. The event attracted over 2,000 representatives from more than 160 countries and regions. As a partner of the Confucius Institute, WASCZ was invited to attend the conference. During the event, our Chinese Headmaster, Mr Cao, was interviewed exclusively by China Daily. WASCZ was also the only K-12 school at the conference to be interviewed by the media.
In the interview, Mr Cao introduced the features of WASCZ and the significance of the WAS Scholarship Programme. He emphasised that this unique opportunity allows international students to balance their home country’s studies with learning Chinese, fostering educational exchange between Chinese and overseas youth. It enables outstanding overseas students to understand China comprehensively and authentically. By collaborating with Confucius Institutes overseas, we help talented young students realise their dream of studying in China, while further enhancing the local influence of Confucius Institutes.
Since its establishment in 2023, WAS International Scholarships have become an important educational initiative within the WAS community, attracting dozens of outstanding international scholars with global perspectives and academic potential to study in China. These students, driven by a passion for Chinese culture and a pursuit of excellence in education, have joined the multicultural family of WAS, where they strive for academic excellence and holistic development. Just last week, two of our international scholars, R. Ursu and C. Poulton, received interview invitations from the University of Cambridge to study Law and Natural Sciences, respectively. Their success stories are a demonstration of the opportunities that WAS Schools provide.
Through the WAS International Scholarships, these outstanding international scholars have become important ambassadors and practitioners of WAS educational philosophy and Chinese culture. Their role in promoting our educational values and sharing the richness of Chinese culture is a source of pride for us. We will continue to offer more opportunities for talented students worldwide, helping them achieve their dreams and jointly create a brilliant future.
