We are thrilled to present the unique and significant highlights of the inaugural NESSIC Leadership Meeting and Badminton Tournament. This landmark event brought together schools from across the region, fostering collaboration, competition, and camaraderie in a new way.
About NESSIC
The Network for Enriching Students and Schools in China (NECCIS) is a nonprofit organisation based in Beijing. NECCIS works to support schools in delivering top-notch education in a safe, welcoming environment. They provide professional development for school leaders, teachers, and staff while creating spaces for educators to connect, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. In addition, NECCIS organises social events to foster networking and collaboration and offers activities that give students more chances to grow and learn beyond the classroom.
Being part of NESSIC, a wider group of schools, is a unique privilege that brings numerous opportunities for enrichment. It provides teachers with invaluable chances to work professionally with their peers, while students can engage in sports, arts, and science competitions, broadening their horizons and sharing experiences. This event was a testament to the power of such collaboration and the unique opportunities NESSIC provides.
Event Highlights
During this NECCIS badminton tournament, students had the unique opportunity to participate with peers from 11 schools. They experienced the thrill and pressure of a competitive tournament and enjoyed the camaraderie of supporting other teams in the finals. It was an incredible opportunity for them to build lasting connections and learn the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.
The NESSIC leadership conference was not just a significant milestone, but a truly inspiring event. It was attended by the founding board head of the organisation, the first member schools, including ours, and other schools interested in joining the network. The conference’s theme, “Forging Creative Futures,” resonated deeply as new friendships were formed among leaders, teachers, and guests. Throughout the conference, whether in panel discussions, workshops, or discussions over lunch, the focus always came back to what we are doing in our schools to make the experience for our communities more engaging and enriching.
A highlight of the conference was the opportunity to hear from Marlon Devonish, an Olympic Gold Medallist in the relay. His inspiring speech and workshops offered valuable insights and motivated everyone present. Engaging in professional discourse with other schools is a unique benefit only an organisation like NESSIC can provide.
Looking Ahead
We look forward to hosting upcoming sporting events in the new year, as well as smaller sports events aimed at developing our students’ competitive skills. An excellent example of camaraderie was shown at NESSIC when one of the member schools needed to find teams to play in preparation for a tournament within their school group this summer. Mr Meehan invited them to play against us, giving both our teams experience while supporting another NESSIC school.
Moreover, WASCZ is steadily building a sports programme that prioritises excellence and creates opportunities for our students to compete, grow, and embrace new challenges. Cooperation with NECCIS is a crucial means of developing this important programme.
We eagerly anticipate more enriching events as we continue to build a strong, collaborative community that benefits our teachers and students. Together, we are forging a brighter, more creative future for all, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds.
