Welcome Back to Primary in 2022!

The welcoming of a new year brings with it excitement and hope about what is in store in the future. This is no different at Wycombe Abbey School, Changzhou – Primary!

A focus on a holistic education is at the centre of everything we do at WASCZ, with all our pupils taking part in sport, music and art through the week, developing skills such as teamwork, communication (in both English and Chinese), hand-eye co-ordination, rhythm, and both gross and fine motor skills.

In the classroom, pupils from Grades 1-5 develop socially, emotionally and linguistically, with a key focus for all classes being pupils following our “Golden Rules”:

  • Being Kind and Helpful
  • Listening to Others
  • Trying our best
  • Being honest
  • Being gentle
  • Looking after our property

With these rules consistently reinforced in all areas of school life, our pupils learn skills to carry them successfully through their entire school career and into the adult world and beyond.

Our ECA program this year is as wide as ever, with activities such as “Aromatherapy”, “Coding Club”, “Paper Quilling”, “Ball Skills”, “Creative Story Writing”, “Comic Book Club”, “Cooking”, “Zumba”, “Yoga”, “Badminton”, “Table Tennis”, and “Cartoon Drawing” and for the first time this year, we have introduced two clubs that our pupils have developed the idea for too!

The “Community Club”, started by a number of our Grade 5 pupils, focuses on developing environmental awareness around school and making our school campus a better place. The children involved will be making promotional posters, be involved in gardening and growing their own vegetables sustainably over the course of the year, and also encouraging recycling around school.

The “Drama Club”, also started by some of our Grade 5 pupils, aims to introduce a love of drama to those involved, with a goal to put on their own by the end of the year Primary production in June. We are excited to see how these two clubs particularly progress over the course of the year.

Both clubs involve nominating leaders and making agendas and plans for the weeks ahead which gives the pupils an opportunity to improve and apply their organisational skills tangibly.

With our Primary Talent Show being one of the key focuses in the Lent (Spring) Term, our teachers have been busy encouraging all our extremely talented boys and girls to sign up for auditions after Spring Festival, with singers, dancers, musicians and magicians all having signed up so far from across Grades 1-5. Giving these kind of opportunities will prove invaluable for confidence building in all our children.

Sports continue to be hugely popular at WASCZ, with weekly training sessions in rugby, football, netball, basketball and swimming taking place, as well as weekly ECAs in fencing and tennis. The difference in skill level between the start of the year and now is fantastic and all the coaches are extremely proud of everyone’s commitment so far!

An extremely exciting term awaits us at Wycombe Abbey Primary School!
