ABRSM Practical Exam Results - 86% Merit and Distinction Awards for WAIS Musicians

School News May 31, 2019

One month ago, 71 WAIS musicians took ABRSM practical exams – the biggest group of candidates WAIS has ever entered. The results are also the best the School has ever attained – with 86% Merit and Distinction Awards. The cohort average is a remarkable 128/150 marks. Many congratulations to A. Zou (Grade 2 Cavell) and T. Huang (Year 10 Fonteyn) for scoring an extraordinary 143/150 marks for their Grades 1 piano and Grade 2 voice exams. A special mention must go to P. Tao (Year 9 Blake) for achieving a Distinction for his Grade 8 Violin exam. This means P. Tao has already collected 30 UCAS points before starting his GCSE study – a huge advantage over his peers. Please refer to the table below for a full list of the top WAIS scorer for each ABRSM grade.

Our ABRSM examiner, Mr Richard Ellis, was particularly impressed by the wide range of instruments our musicians played and how well-prepared our candidate were. Mr Ellis attributed the outstanding overall result to the exceptional level of teaching at WAIS - well done to both pupils and teachers.
