The name “Harry Potter” is like a magic key that opens the door to children’s imagination. If your child has seen Harry Potter, has a vision for magic, and a spirit of adventure and exploration, then you should not miss our kindergarten house sorting ceremony.
The sorting ceremony’s purpose is to let the children wear the sorting hat and to have the sorting hat judge which house the children should be placed in for study and life. On Wednesday 1st November 2023, the first sorting hat ceremony of Wycombe Abbey Kindergarten was held. Our Headmaster Dr Paul Silverwood gave the opening speech. The children invited their families to witness this sepcial occasion.
In his speech the Headmaster noted that the House system brings together children of all ages, like a family, supporting each other, giving a sense of belonging, and providing continuity in our community.
The children will earn House Points through competitions, excellent work, and acts of kindness towards others. And they will represent their House on many occasions through physical, creative, and technical activities and in performances.
The Sorting hat is a very worn, patched, and dirty pointed wizard’s hat, but it is not to be underestimated, it is full of magic, intelligence and thought, which is used to see what talents each student has, and thus put students into the right house. Austen, Blyton, Cavell, Dove, Blake, Elgar, Hawking, Newton. Eight houses, 4 for boys and 4 for girls.
Our aim is to provide children of all ages the opportunity to work together, creating a truly cohesive environment, ensuring that age is not a barrier to friendship and collaboration and fostering a sense of belonging and community within the Houses, and across the whole WASCZ. So that our youngest children can be better integrated into the school and have more opportunity to enjoy fun competitions.
Childhood is limited, give children a special experience about sorting ceremony, allow them forever be curious and explore the world with the house family together.
Be proud of your House and support your team!
Each House has its own colour and logo. And each house is named after a famous British woman or man, who achieved great things, often after overcoming difficulties.
The Headmaster challenged the new recruits: ‘Today, children, you will join the ranks of one of these famous Houses. A family and team within our school. And we hope that you too will want to be writers, scholars, scientists, musicians, artists, and reformers. We want you to be inspired by these role models but become the authors of your own destinies.’
Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry famously said: ‘Our choices are far more important than our abilities.’
So don’t ever be jealous of what others can do. Always focus on making the right choices – how to behave, how to work hard and how to contribute to your House.
