With the arrival of the warm spring breeze, the K1 and K2 children from WASCZ Kindergarten enjoyed a special learning trip to West Taihu Fire Station. During this meaningful visit, the children had the opportunity to observe the daily work of firefighters up close, learn about fire safety, and gain a deeper appreciation for those who protect our communities.
As soon as they arrived, the children’s curiosity was immediately sparked. Firefighters warmly introduced a variety of firefighting equipment and explained their different purposes in clear and engaging language. From rescue tools to protective gear, each piece of equipment captured the children’s attention and helped them better understand how firefighters respond to emergencies and keep people safe.
One of the most exciting moments for the children was watching the firefighters demonstrate how quickly they can put on their fire suits. In just a few seconds, the heavy protective gear was fully in place. The firefighters’ speed and professionalism impressed the children greatly. To help them experience the work of firefighters more directly, the children were invited to try on the fire suits and helmets themselves. Feeling the weight of the equipment, many children exclaimed, “It’s so heavy!” and “Firefighters are amazing!” Through this hands-on experience, the children began to understand the responsibility and dedication behind every emergency call.
During the visit to the living area, firefighters also demonstrated how they fold their quilts into the neat “tofu blocks” often associated with disciplined daily life in the fire station. This small but fascinating activity helped the children appreciate the importance of order, responsibility and self-discipline.
Another highlight of the visit was the water-spraying experience. Under the careful supervision of firefighters, the children had the opportunity to handle the fire hose and feel the strength of the high-pressure water. The activity was filled with excitement and laughter while also helping the children understand the basic principles of firefighting.
Toward the end of the visit, an unexpected moment left a deep impression on everyone. Suddenly, the emergency alarm sounded. The firefighters who had just been interacting with the children immediately sprang into action, quickly boarding the fire engine and heading out with sirens sounding. The children watched quietly before breaking into spontaneous applause. Their heartfelt response reflected their admiration and gratitude. In that moment, the meaning of the word “hero” became real in their young hearts.
This visit to West Taihu Fire Station brought safety education to life. Through observation, participation and interaction, the children gained valuable knowledge about fire safety while also learning the importance of respect, gratitude and responsibility.
WASCZ Kindergarten would like to express our sincere thanks to the firefighters at West Taihu Fire Station for their warm welcome and for providing the children with such an unforgettable and meaningful learning experience.
May every firefighter return safely from each mission, and may every child grow with courage, kindness and a sense of responsibility.
