Our Kindergarten was filled with colour, creativity and excitement as the children came together to celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival. This special festival is traditionally associated with the full moon, family reunion, togetherness and gratitude, and it provided a wonderful opportunity for our children to explore traditional culture through hands-on learning, shared experiences and joyful celebration.
A Beautiful Morning Fashion Show
The day began with a delightful fashion show, where the children proudly showed off their beautiful traditional Chinese clothing. It was a lovely moment for everyone to appreciate the colours, patterns and details of each outfit, as well as the confidence the children showed as they walked in front of their friends and teachers.
Many children also brought lanterns, adding even more excitement and festive atmosphere to the morning. The lanterns helped the children connect with one of the well-loved traditions of the Mid-Autumn Festival, while also giving them the chance to share something special with their classmates.
Creative Afternoon Activities
In the afternoon, the children took part in a range of engaging activities designed to encourage creativity, curiosity and teamwork.
One highlight was fan making, where the children dipped fans into water and dye to create beautiful and unique patterns. This activity allowed them to explore colour mixing, cause and effect, and the joy of creating something by themselves.
The children also enjoyed mooncake making, an important part of Mid-Autumn Festival traditions. Through this experience, they were able to use their senses, follow instructions and learn more about the meaning of mooncakes as a symbol of reunion and sharing.
Other activities included solving riddles, making bookmarks and creating small festival decorations. These experiences encouraged the children to think carefully, use their imagination and take pride in their finished work.
Learning Through Play
As part of the celebration, the children also practised their motor skills through a playful chopstick challenge. Using wooden sticks, they carefully tried to pick up balloon mooncakes from from the ground and tried to place them into a box. This fun activity supported hand-eye coordination, concentration and fine motor control, while also giving the children a chance to persevere and celebrate each small success.
Throughout the day, there were many opportunities for the children to work together, share ideas, help one another and enjoy learning as part of a caring community. These moments are just as important as the activities themselves, as they help children develop confidence, friendship and a sense of belonging.
A Celebration to Remember
Overall, our Mid-Autumn Festival celebration was a very fun and memorable day for the children. From the morning fashion show to the creative afternoon activities, the children had the chance to celebrate culture, express themselves and build lasting memories together in our wonderful Kindergarten.
We are proud of the enthusiasm, creativity and teamwork shown by all of the children, and we hope they came home with happy stories to share about this special celebration.
