Led by professional drama and dance teachers, this Drama Course immerses children in a reimagined Romeo and Juliet, covering acting, stage design, costume creation, and stage combat. At the end of the camp, students will perform a bilingual showcase at WASNJ and may take the show on tour. The programme develops physical, verbal, and emotional expression, while building confidence, empathy, and teamwork.

Drama Course
Children will have the opportunity to learn acting with proper projection and stage gestures, mastering vocal techniques on stage. This includes character analysis and text learning in both English and Chinese, with refence to classic text of Shakespeare. In addition, children will take part in a professional stage combat course—a performing art that combines safety with dramatic effect. Under the guidance of a certified stage combat instructor, they will learn safe techniques for unarmed and weapon-based combat, falls, and stunts, using precise body control to bring realistic and dynamic action to the performance.
After learning how costumes are helping to dive into the story, students will design and make their own masks to suit the needs of the play. They will also learn, design and build the iconic balcony for Romeo and Juliet. Introvert students with less attraction for stage exposure will explore how to set the stage, manage actors, support the director and become integral part of the show.
WAS Nanjing introduces ‘Drama in Education’ distinct from ‘Drama Education’ tailored for professional actors. Unlike emphasizing performance or script reading, ‘Drama in Education’ employs dramatic activities, theater engagement, and theatrical cognition as teaching tools. The primary goal is to nurture children’s confidence, creativity, teamwork, and a spectrum of transferable comprehensive skills and abilities.
