In a dazzling display of talent and literary passion, 11 Lower School students from WASCZ made their mark at the 2025 Wycombe Abbey Speech Festival finals held in Hangzhou, China. Their dedication and hard work were evident as they celebrated the art of poetry in both English and Chinese. The competition saw young contenders from Grades 1 to 5 reciting verses from memory in a fierce yet supportive atmosphere, showcasing the rich cultural tapestry and profound creativity of our future leaders.
This year, the competition reached new heights, with finalists showcasing their skills in front of a captivated audience. The event not only celebrated the beauty of language but also encouraged participants to embrace their cultural heritage through poetry. What was particularly striking was the confidence with which the young contestants delivered their recitations, articulating their interpretations of classic and contemporary pieces in English and Chinese.
Head of the Lower School English, Mr Awad, expressed his pride in the students’ achievements, stating, “Our students have worked incredibly hard to prepare for this moment. It is heartening to see them embrace both English and Chinese poetry, reflecting our commitment to fostering multilingualism and cultural appreciation.”
