On the radiant winter morning of November 21, a meaningful visit unfolded at the Changzhou Children’s Welfare Institute, as Mr Kan Qinghao, the Chinese Principal, and Mr Stephen Ottewell, the Second Master, joined hands in a compassionate outreach. Together with Mr Jiang Ziping, President of the Changzhou Charity Federation, and Ms Xu Yujuan, Secretary of the Party Branch and Director of the Children’s Welfare Institute in Changzhou, they orchestrated a touching ceremony.
During last month’s”WASCZ 10th Anniversary· International Family Day” event, the school community, including students, parents, and teachers, raised a commendable donation of 67,655 yuan through a heartwarming charity sale.
With hearts brimming with sincerity, Mr Kan and Mr Ottewell visited the Changzhou Children’s Welfare Institute. Ms Xu Yujuan, sharing insights as the Secretary of the Party Branch and Director, explained that these funds would be allocated to enhance the living conditions and educational quality for the orphaned children in the institute. Additionally, the donation would aid those with severe disabilities in their medical rehabilitation.
As a local institution dedicated to international education, Mr Jiang Ziping, the President of the Changzhou Charity Federation, commended the cultural diversity embraced by WASCZ. He also acknowledged the fervor and compassion exhibited by the entire school community. Welcoming Mr Ottewell, who comes from the UK, Mr Jiang expressed warm greetings, noting, “Human and industrial civilizations may have originated in the UK. ” “But China is leading the way forward.” Mr Ottewell responded graciously.
The practice of donating funds to Changzhou-based children’s institutes has been part of our school’s ethos since 2019, with cumulative donations exceeding one hundred thousand yuan. While kindness transcends numerical measures, it served as a testament to our commitment towards social responsibility.
During the donation ceremony, Mr Ottewell shared a profound perspective, stating, “Charity embodies a shared value that transcends cultural boundaries. At WASCZ we strive to shape individuals who are not only academically accomplished but also socially conscious and compassionate. ”
Through such initiatives, our aspiration is to provide students with a platform to explore and connect with causes they feel passionate about, amalgamating small acts of kindness into a collective force. Our ultimate hope remains that every child worldwide receives the attention and care they deserve.
