On November 26th, an awe-inspiring performance is due to take place at the Nanjing Youth Palace Theatre in Nanjing – where will you be? From singing to dancing and skilled instrumentalists to ensembles, come to see the best of the best as they raise money for the Jiangsu Women and Children’s Foundation and Jiangsu Cultural Art Youth Development Foundation.
WASCZ has always challenged students to emphasize all-round development and encourages doing good for others. In previous years, much heartwarming work has been done in collaboration with the Changzhou Children’s Orphanage, and our strong relationship continues to grow ever closer.
The November performance is titled “Let’s Go to Dunhuang Together”. The project is led by E. Xu (G10, Somerville). Last year, her project raised 240,000 RMB through a similar charity performance to benefit children in the mountains of Guizhou.
This year, WASCZ has joined forces with WASNJ and other schools to produce a performance of the highest level.
The show is due to open with a magnificent dance act, accompanied by a live band, led by the visionary Miss Paula Rost, and promises to be an extraordinary event. The fusion of ballet and live music brings together the grace of dance and the power of music in a unique and enthralling way, enhancing the emotional impact of both art forms, and creating a truly immersive experience for the audience.
Performer H. Yang, who played a raucous jazz performance on the double keyboard last year to the delight of the audience, will once again grace us with a special jazz piece on this most interesting and unique of instruments. With years of experience and careful study starting from an early age, this performance is sure to stand out as one to remember.
Professional musicians and WASCZ teachers Mr. Griff Wadkin and Miss Lingling Yu are due to perform a moving duet on piano and cello. They have performed across the UK and China in prestigious venues such as Birmingham Symphony Hall, Westminster Abbey, Nanjing Steinway Hall, and many more.
There will be over fifteen skilled performances for the audience to enjoy, with something available to please every interest, and much inspiration and motivation to be taken by hopeful students who wish to see themselves on the stage in the future.
On October 21, WAS Family Day, we will offer the opportunity to buy tickets and give voluntary donations. All are very welcome to come and visit. Please feel free to come and visit our booth on the 21st if you want to join us. All proceeds from ticket sales will go directly to charity after minimal operating costs.
As a follow up to the performance, a study tour is currently being planned for April 2024. Those who choose to take part will visit Dunhuang personally and volunteer their time and talents to benefit the local children. Forecasted activities include:
· Historical and cultural trip
· Musical performances
· Elder brother/elder sister mentoring
· English masterclasses
· Reading practice
· Chinese culture appreciation
