On April 26th, our fencers competed in the 6th Wujin District Youth Fencing Championships, a prestigious event hosted by Wujin Education Bureau and Culture & Tourism Administration. This event, which is a significant platform for young athletes, gathered participants from 13 schools across the district.
Second Appearance, Stellar Achievements
In only its second participation, WASCZ fencing team delivered an outstanding performance with three gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Coach Ms Guo shared emotionally:
“The U8 Girls’ Épée Team claimed gold in their very first collaboration, a triumph of perseverance and teamwork! During training, they practised footwork voluntarily and corrected each other’s techniques. Even when trailing in matches, they encouraged teammates and strategised calmly. Their maturity and unity shone brighter than any medal.”
Behind the U12 Boys’ Team victory lies a year of growth and transformation. These fencers evolved from impatient to technical precision, from individualism to embracing roles. When K Shang rallied under pressure to equalise the score inthe finals, he paved the way for anchor fencer L Mei’s decisive strike. Together, they proved that synergy outweighs solo brilliance.”
Onward to New Challenges
WASCZ fencers wield their blades not just for medals, but to forge resilience and camaraderie. The next chapter awaits, onward to greater heights!
