I Can Be a Global Ambassador of the School and for China
–R. Caliuta
My experience in China and WASCZ has been nothing short of excellent. As each day goes on, my gratitude to the school and all those who have believed in me increases. Being at this school and studying in China has been an amazing experience that has pushed me out of my comfort zone and helped me develop and nurture like nothing else could.
I have quite a different relationship to China than my other peers, as I had the privilege to visit China last October on a spectacular school trip. I saw some of the most incredible places on Earth, such as the Great Wall of China and the Purple Mountain in Nanjing, which heavily influenced my love for China. So, getting the chance to join WASCZ was nothing short of a blessing. Studying in China has taught me many different skills and shaped me to be a better person than I was two years ago, an opportunity I hope everyone could enjoy.
One of my favourite things about studying in China is the culture. I have first-hand experience of how Chinese people conduct themselves, their views and attitudes, and it has been remarkably interesting and impactful. For me, the integration in my school has been amazing, as someone who is quite sporty and academic, I have fitted right into life here at WASCZ. I can proudly say that I wake up every day delighted to go to school and see my peers and classmates. This opportunity has been eye-opening and taught me incredible skills that I will hold dear to my heart for the rest of my life. I have become more independent and more courageous, and I have a better understanding of the world we live in
This opportunity really highlights how you can make a difference, whether it is to the lives around you or the lives of others. I have been able to share my amazing experiences with people from the UK, and I have been successful in changing unfortunate perceptions of China that people from the western world may have. This is something I will continue to do after my time here at WASCZ. I feel like I can be a global ambassador of the school and for China – I want everyone around me to be well aware of how incredible China is, not from a tourist’s perspective but from a person who has lived in China and integrated themselves into Chinese culture to the best of their ability, and as someone willing to step outside their comfort zone to have a real authentic experience of studying in China.
This opportunity has been second to none and I feel honoured to be a scholar at WASCZ. I would be delighted if the scholarship program was continued and extended further, because it allows people to experience a ‘once in a lifetime’ opportunity, strive for academic excellence, and be part of a rare group of people who can proudly say they have studied in China. This is why I so deeply hope the program can be extended so that more people can share this wonderful experience.
[Every year, the Wycombe Abbey International China Scholarship Programme selects approximately 10 scholars to study at its campuses in WASCZ. These scholars benefit from an international curriculum seamlessly integrated with rich experiences of Chinese culture. They engage in meaningful interactions with local students, fostering cross-cultural understanding and growth. This unique platform allows Chinese and international students to learn from one another, make shared progress, and develop a deeper global perspective.]
