In Grade 5, our students embarked on an enriching journey to familiarise themselves with professional interviewing, a vital life skill that fosters confidence, communication, and curiosity.
This learning unit was designed to teach the mechanics of interviewing and inspire a sense of empowerment and active participation in our school community.
The journey began with a deep dive into interview etiquette. Students explored essential topics such as crafting meaningful questions, practising active listening, and conducting thorough
research about their interviewee. Through hands-on activities, they prepared thoughtful questions for relatives and classmates, honing their skills in a collaborative and engaging classroom environment.
One of the highlights of this unit was a practical exercise that captured the imagination of every student: preparing to interview our headmaster. With enthusiasm, the class collectively
researched the headmaster’s background, brainstormed insightful questions, and selected a class representative to conduct the interview. The chosen representative executed this task with grace and professionalism, leaving a lasting impression on her peers and the headmaster alike.
This activity proved to be more than just an exercise in communication; it was a transformative experience, instilling confidence in students through their new ability to engage with senior figures professionally. Students realised that their voices matter and that they, too, can contribute meaningfully to their school. It bridged the gap between students and the headmaster, fostering a sense of connection and mutual respect.
The culmination of this learning unit was the class assembly, where students proudly presented their newfound knowledge to the entire Lower School. The assembly featured a showcase of their interview with the headmaster and a live workshop, where they introduced their peers and teachers to the essential rules of interviewing. This interactive presentation allowed the students to lead by example, sharing their learning in an educational and inspiring way.
Throughout this project, the students gained practical skills and built stronger connections within their school community, embodying the spirit of leadership and active participation. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to seeing how these budding interviewers continue to grow and shine!
