At WASCZ Lower School, leadership development is woven into everyday school life. We are delighted to celebrate the successful completion of our Grade 6 Prefect, Head Boy and Head Girl selection process. These roles provide students with valuable opportunities to serve others, take responsibility and contribute to the school community.
We are delighted to celebrate the successful completion of our Grade 6 Prefect and Head Boy and Head Girl selection process. Let’s discover how our students have taken an important step in their leadership journey.
Taking the Initiative and Finding Their Voice
All Grade 6 students were invited to apply to become a prefect. Those wishing to be considered completed an application form and attended an interview, allowing them to share their strengths, ideas and commitment to our Lower School community. We were extremely proud of the maturity and enthusiasm shown by every student who took part.
Successful prefect candidates were then invited to apply for the positions of Head Boy and Head Girl. After completing a further application form, each candidate delivered a one-minute speech during the Lower School assembly, explaining why they believed they would be suitable for the role.
Every student in the Lower School had a voice in the final decision. Grades 1–5 voted as class groups, while Grade 6 students cast their votes individually. This provided a valuable opportunity for students to experience a fair and democratic election process and to consider carefully the qualities needed in an effective student leader.
Putting Leadership into Practice
Our newly appointed prefects will play an important role within the Lower School. Their responsibilities will include:
Supporting school Open Days by welcoming visitors, assisting with tours and proudly showcasing our school.
Monitoring the piano area and encouraging its responsible use.
Helping younger students in the canteen at lunchtime.
Supporting students in Grades 1–3 with their reading.
Organising activities for younger students in the Junior Playground during breaktimes……
Congratulations to all our newly appointed prefects, and especially to our new Head Boy and Head Girl. We look forward to seeing them grow as leaders and make a positive contribution to school life.
We would also like to thank every student who applied. Putting yourself forward takes courage, and each candidate should feel extremely proud of their efforts. The future of our Lower School is certainly in capable hands!
