Spring is coming and to recognise the importance of trees and looking after our planet, the children at WASCZ KG held a meaningful themed activity.
Before our tree planting event commenced, teachers in each classroom explained the origins of Tree Planting Day to the children. They shared engaging picture books about trees, guided the children in crafting tree-themed handmade items, and led them in colouring tree illustrations. Through these light-hearted and enjoyable activities, the children gained an initial understanding of the role trees play and the importance of cherishing nature.
After the indoor activities finished, the children eagerly made their way to our WASCZ forest outside, ready to plant saplings with their own hands. Holding hands in a circle, they chattered excitedly:“This is our class’s little tree!” “What shall we call it?” “How shall we look after it properly?” Their innocent words brimmed with curiosity and anticipation.
After the teacher helped place the sapling into the planting hole, the children eagerly picked up their trowels. With great care, they scooped soil into the hole, filling it as they earnestly and attentively settled the young tree into its new home. Once planted, the children and teacher cheered together, ‘Thank you trees!,’ expressing their gratitude to the trees around us.
During this tree-planting event, KG1 planted pear trees, KG2 planted apple trees, and KG3 planted kumquat saplings. Though different in kind, each sapling carries the same hopes, bearing witness to the children’s growth and kindness.
Through this event, the children gained a first-hand understanding of the importance of planting trees and protecting greenery. They came to realise the need to safeguard our planet and cherish the environment, while also planting within their hearts the seeds of respect for nature and commitment to preserving green spaces.
