As the second Jiangsu Football City League approaches, the spirit it represents—perseverance, teamwork, and resilience—has ignited pitches across the city. Inspired by this atmosphere, our football teams have embraced every challenge with determination, delivering a series of outstanding performances in recent competitions.
Our U15 team recently achieved 2nd place in the NESSIC tournament. Similarly, our U19 team competed in the NESSIC tournament in Guangzhou, where they also claimed an impressive 2nd place. With leading international schools from across China taking part, these achievements are particularly meaningful, reflecting both the competitive strength and resilience of our players.
At the same time, both teams have been actively competing in the ISNAC and SYAC tournaments, facing strong opponents from cities including Suzhou, Wuxi, Nanjing, and Hefei. Within this competitive structure, the diversity of teams and the intensity of fixtures have provided our players with valuable exposure to different styles of play and tactical approaches. As a result, they continue to adapt, grow, and refine their performance—gaining not only experience on the field, but also developing composure and mental resilience through high-level competition.
Currently, our Grade 4–5 students are preparing for the SUIS tournament in Wuxi, while our U9 and U12 teams will also have opportunities to showcase their skills in upcoming fixtures and events. These tournaments present a valuable opportunity for our students not only to develop their technical and tactical understanding, but also to build resilience, teamwork, and a competitive mindset. Our teams have shown strong performances, and we are confident in their ability to compete at a high level.
Our football programme continues to grow strongly across all age groups. We now offer a well-structured pathway, including a KG football academy, as well as lower school football for both girls and boys. Recently, we also launched Sunday football sessions, which have been very well received by students and parents. Under the leadership of Mr Ristic and his team, a clear and ambitious development plan has been implemented to further enhance football at our school. As a result, football has become one of the most popular sports within the school community, with approximately 160 students actively engaged from kindergarten through to Upper School.
The development of sport extends far beyond wins and losses on the field. At WASCZ, what we value most is the resilience and composure our students cultivate on the pitch, their sense of teamwork, and a lasting passion for sport. Looking ahead, we look forward to seeing our young athletes step onto ever broader stages, continuing to challenge themselves, push their limits, and write their own remarkable stories.
