Football fever continues to sweep across Jiangsu. As the “Su Chao”(Jiangsu Football City League) enters its second season, more and more people are stepping onto football pitches, cheering every challenge and celebrating every goal. It reminds us once again that the magic of football belongs to far more than the professional game. It can also be found in every moment when children run, challenge themselves and persevere.
This autumn, WASCZ’s popular 「Sunday Football Academy」 returns! Open to all Lower School students, the programme is led by our own coach who holds a UEFA A Licence, with extensive professional football and youth development experience. Through a structured programme combining professional training, engaging lessons, competitive matches and personalised feedback, children can develop their skills while experiencing the joy of the game.
From cheering from the stands to stepping onto the pitch themselves, every Sunday is an opportunity for your child to create their own football moment!

01 | UEFA A-Licensed Coach & Professional Expertise in Youth Development
Goran Ristic
WASCZ Head of Football & Housemaster of Elgar House
Holding a UEFA A Licence, one of UEFA’s highest coaching qualifications, he brings extensive experience from top-flight professional football, having played in nearly 800 top-level league matches across Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. His technical approach is rooted in the highest levels of European football. He previously led the UEFA-supported Open Fun Football Schools programme, using football to promote social integration. As a National Champion coach with the Bosnia and Herzegovina U16 team, he has also dedicated himself to youth development, earning multiple Coach of the Year honours. Since joining WASCZ, he has led the school’s football teams to multiple honours in international school competitions, including SYAC, ISNAC and NESSIC leagues, helping to create a pathway for young players to connect with the wider world of football.
02 | Age-Group Training & Steady Skill Development
The Football Academy provides age-group training tailored to students at different stages of development. Through a structured, engaging and progressive coaching programme, students develop their technical ability, tactical understanding, physical fitness, teamwork and confidence.Beginners can build a strong foundation, while more experienced players are supported in taking their skills to the next level.
Each session combines technical training, small-sided games, tactical drills and team matches, giving students opportunities to apply their skills in realistic game situations. Step by step, they develop key abilities in passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting and ball control, while strengthening essential match skills such as positioning, decision-making, attacking and defending.
03 | Engaging Sessions × Friendly Matches & Building Character Through Football
Training should be more than repetitive drills. Through teamwork-based games and competitive challenges, every session is designed to be engaging, purposeful and enjoyable. Students will also have the opportunity to take part in friendly matches against other football academies in Changzhou, putting the skills they have developed in training to the test in a real match environment. Parents will be invited to come along and cheer them on, sharing in their progress and celebrating their achievements on the pitch.
In a supportive environment, students experience both the discipline of training and the excitement of competition. Through teamwork and healthy competition, they learn to communicate, take responsibility, respect their opponents and embrace both victory and defeat. Resilience, leadership and team spirit — qualities that extend far beyond the classroom — can flourish on the pitch.
04 | Certificates and Medals & Making Progress Visible
Every effort deserves to be recognised, and every passion deserves to be nurtured. At WASCZ Football Academy, every child is seen. Coaches will monitor each student’s development through day-to-day coaching, participation in matches and tracking of sporting performance, providing encouragement and recognition at key stages of their development.
At different stages of the programme, each student will receive a personalised football progress report, recording and reflecting their learning progress, participation and individual development. At the end of the programme, every student will receive a medal and certificate in recognition of their commitment and hard work. We believe that the confidence and sense of achievement they gain along the way are among the most meaningful markers of growth.
