In the recently concluded 2025 National Youth Rowing Championship Finals, the young athletes from the WASCZ Rowing Team made an impressive debut that captivated the entire nation, vividly embodying the courage and strength of “a young calf is not afraid of a tiger”! This event was unprecedented in scale, bringing together top sports schools, professional clubs, and elite athletes from across China, including Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, and more. It can be considered the annual highlight of youth rowing in the country. Despite facing many well-trained and experienced competitors, the WASCZ rowers demonstrated maturity and sharpness beyond their years. They ranked highly in several events and achieved excellent results.
What’s especially noteworthy is our competition line-up. With an average age of just 14, the WASCZ rowers bravely chose to compete in the more fiercely contested 17-year-old category. The gap in age and physique did not make them back down; instead, it fueled their fighting spirit. In the individual events, which were highly competitive, they fought hard against stronger opponents, ultimately surpassing their personal bests. They secured excellent positions: 5th, 8th, 9th, and 12th place nationally. Behind every result was the sweat poured out on countless mornings and evenings, a testament to overcoming difficulties through belief.
Not only did they excel in individual events, but on the team stage, our athletes also demonstrated incredible synergy and collaboration. In the 5000-meter mixed relay, a race that tests team spirit and tactical execution, this young team competed against many adult teams. They worked in perfect harmony, persevered with determination, and, in the end, triumphed by securing 9th place in the adult category, earning the respect of the entire field.
This heavy book of honours not only records the athletes’ sweat but also highlights the profound essence of the “WASCZ Spirit” — the courage to venture, the spirit to fight, and the willingness to face challenges. From rigorous training by the West Taihu Lake to an impressive debut at the national stage, they have achieved remarkable growth through their indomitable will and fighting spirit. This achievement is a reward for the athletes’ strict discipline and hard work, as well as a victory for the rowing team’s excellent cohesion and steadfast belief.
This final was not only a competition but also a vivid lesson in growth. It proved to everyone that age is not a limit, and experience is not a barrier. As long as you have passion, dare to dream, and are willing to give your all, young rowers can leave their mark and carve out their own strong path amidst the waves at the national level.
Congratulations to all the award-winning athletes! Your efforts are a source of pride for WASCZ. This glorious starting point will surely inspire the rowing team and encourage more WASCZ students to sail towards the vast sea of stars on even bigger stages in the future, with faith as their rudder and hard work as their oar!
